Residency Training: Physicians must have completed residency training, approved by the Secretary of Veterans Affairs in an accredited core specialty training program leading to eligibility for board certification. Approved residencies are: (1) Those approved by the Accreditation Council for Graduate Medical Education (ACGME), b) OR [(2) Those approved by the American Osteopathic Association (AOA),OR (3) Other residencies (non-US residency training programs followed by a minimum of five years of verified practice in the United States), which the local Medical Staff Executive Committee deems to have provided the applicant with appropriate professional training and believes has exposed the physician to an appropriate range of patient care experiences. Residents currently enrolled in ACGME/AOA accredited residency training programs and who would otherwise meet the basic requirements for appointment are eligible to be appointed as "Physician Resident Providers" (PRPs). PRPs must be fully licensed physicians (i.e., not a training license) and may only be appointed on an intermittent or fee-basis. PRPs are not considered independent practitioners and will not be privileged; rather, they are to have a "scope of practice" that allows them to perform certain restricted duties under supervision. The PM&RS staff employed under PM&RS will report directly to the PM&RS Chief. The incumbent must possess a broad spectrum of clinical and administrative knowledge which provides the ability to manage a PM&RS program, specifically with regard to Veteran and Staff customer satisfaction, quality of services provided, and efficiency of service delivery. The PM&RS Chief, will provide leadership and direction for the providers, clinical leaders and administrative support staff located at the Alexandria VA Health Care Systems and Southern CBOC's. In order to affect and effectively manage VHA policies, the incumbent must have skills in management theory, cost-benefit analysis, and statistical analysis. The Chief of Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation Service serves as supervisor for clinical services and staff within the Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation. The PM&RS Chief is responsible for the care of patients with disorders is to diagnose, and treat dysfunction as a result of injury, illness or disabling condition, in both the inpatient and outpatient settings as well as responsible for the administrative duties related to the successful operation of the PM&RS service lines.
