The LPN is accountable for the delivery of quality nursing care to residents within the Community Living Center at our Perry Point campus. He/she develops competence to provide care appropriate to adult and geriatric Veterans in assigned clinical area. Knowledge/skills necessary for concentrated effort with assistance from the RN carries out complex practical nursing care assignments, including assignments for selected Long Term Care residents requiring skilled nursing care. The Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN) is accountable for the delivery of quality nursing care to residents within the Community Living Center (CLC) at our Perry Point campus. He/she develops competence to provide care appropriate to adult and geriatric Veterans in his or her assigned clinical area. This nurse has the knowledge and skills necessary for concentrated effort and with assistance from the registered nurse carries out complex practical nursing care assignments, including assignments for selected Long Term Care residents requiring skilled nursing care. The LPN will prepare and administer prescribed medications and perform treatments according to established policies/procedure. He/she will give complete personal and hygienic care. The Licensed Practical Nurse will also provide assistance with food and fluid intake, recording of I&O's; vital signs, medications, treatments, and patient care. Excellent customer service and communication skills are required. Adheres to computerized patient record system policies and procedures for administration and data entry for vital signs and other patient information. Observes for physical and/or emotional changes in patient's condition from prescribed medications/treatments, promptly and accurately documenting noted changes, and reporting any deviations from normal to RN or MD. Serves as a preceptor in orienting, educating and training less experienced LPN's or Nursing Assistants/Health Care Technicians related to support duties for these more complex, specialized tests/procedures. Adaptable to the changing needs of the medical center; accepts changes in work assignments readily, recognizing that changes are often needed in providing patient care.
