This position is located at the Chillicothe Veterans Affairs Medical Center, providing Psychological Services in the Community Living Center (CLC) long term care units. The incumbent provides professional consultation pertaining to human behavior, determining the reasons for that behavior and predicting and/or modifying the behavior. The incumbent works individually or as a member of a multi-disciplinary treatment team to provide recommendations or treatment plans concerning psychological assessment and intervention. The duties include; but are not limited to: Performs psychological assessment, evaluation and treatment of patients with problems of personality, emotional adjustment or mental illness. Performs psychotherapy with patients, either through individual sessions or through group therapy sessions. Uses therapeutic techniques. Administers a wide variety of group and individual psychological tests. Provides expert consultation to other units or organizations with regards to test administration and evaluation. Provides Evaluative Support to a large population of clients affiliated with the installation or for a particular client base. Conducts interviews, uses rating scales, questionnaires or other measurement devices or observes the patient to assess emotional, functional or psychological condition. Plans and conducts group and individual psychotherapy. Based on data gathered during the assessment, plans an appropriate clinical treatment for individual patients. Conceptualizes, develops and presents detailed treatment plans for full range of psychological services for a specialized unit or an entire location. Oversees other professionals or works as a key team member providing comprehensive psychological and medical care for a group of individuals. Promotes a psychotherapeutic atmosphere among the professional treatment staff. Promotes, supervises or provides individual and group psychotherapy. Conducts psychotherapy in difficult, multifaceted cases. Provides advice to other staff professionals in an attempt to promote and preserve a therapeutic environment for individual patients. Encourages or establishes a standard for general therapeutic techniques in dealing with all patients. Provides advice regarding appropriate staff responses toward a patient or specific environmental factor that will stimulate more self-reliance, reduce anxiety or achieve more socially adaptable behavior patterns. Independently exercises authoritative judgment in the adjustment of treatment plans. Presents strong argument to multi-disciplinary team to use newly proven or experimental techniques. Serves as expert psychological resource for the multi-disciplinary team and recommends adjustments to other professional staff's relationship with patients or devises programs that employ new or unique techniques to ensure a therapeutic environment. Instructs medical students, residents or psychology students in the typical patterns of progression during treatment. Identifies characteristics of progress and adjustments to treatment that are typical in certain circumstances.
