At the Long Island State Veterans Home, our Environmental Services Managers are valuable members of our team. The incumbent will be primarily responsible for ensuring that sanitary and safe conditions exist for residents, staff and visitors. The incumbent will report to the Director of Environmental Services, and assist in assuring the department staff operates in compliance with policies, procedures, and State and Federal codes pertaining to nursing homes.
Duties of an Environmental Services Manager may include the following but are not limited to:
Primary supervision of all daily activities of Housekeeping Department, assists in supervision of Linen/Laundry Department, including selecting, training, scheduling of all assigned staff in accordance with policies of the LISVH. Perform area and room inspections, document findings and make appropriate corrections to deficiencies. Analyze training needs. Initiate appropriate disciplinary action, maintain accurate records, ensure requirements for annual evaluations and physicals are met on a timely basis. On occasion, will represent Director at committee meetings.
Assures department staff operates in compliance with policies and procedures of the department, in accordance with administrative policies of LISVH and in line with New York State Department of Health code or regulatory requirements as well as local ordinance.
Participate in the development of departmental policies and procedures. These shall include, but are not limited to: Use, cleaning and care of equipment; selection, measurement and proper use of housekeeping and cleaning supplies; maintenance of cleaning schedules; techniques for the evaluation of cleaning effectiveness; liaison with the Infection Control Committee to determine appropriate action based on the results of any microbiological evaluation performed.
Develop purchase requisitions against the supply/storeroom budget for all items used by both Housekeeping and Laundry departments. Standing orders should be developed for all items used on a repetitive basis during the period of one year with an annual dollar value in excess of $5000.00.
Manage, organize and maintain an inventory of all linens for use on Nursing Units in keeping with facility requirements and Department of Health regulations. Keep a manual and/or automated perpetual inventory of all supplies needed for Housekeeping and Laundry. Will oversee vendor compliance with linen contract and any contract used by the Housekeeping Department. This function includes establishing par levels for all supplies, minimum-maximum levels for inventory on Nursing units, Therapy areas, Day Care and Housekeeping/Laundry.
Working conditions may involve exposure to infectious disease, blood, body fluids and/or tissue as well as other unpleasant elements such as accidents, injuries and illness. May be exposed to and be required to handle varying unpredictable, emergency and crisis situations. Occasionally subjected to irregular hours and pressure due to multiple calls and inquiries, as well as weather related situations.
Associates Degree and four (4) years' experience in a management role in a healthcare Environmental Services department. In lieu of degree, a minimum of eight (8) years of housekeeping/laundry/linen management in a healthcare facility. Must be familiar with Department of Health and other related regulatory agencies.
Managerial experience in the Environmental Services department in a skilled nursing facility.
This is a temporary position.
