AREA OF RESPONSIBILITY:
Assist in planning, organizing and directing nursing service.
Control and evaluation of nursing service in order to meet the total nursing needs of the resident
Maintain quality of service that will fulfill the objectives of the nursing home in accordance with the policies set forth by the nursing home.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTION / DUTIES:
Plan and participate in in-service training and orientation programs.
Make routine rounds to insure residents are getting proper care.
Maintain current health certificates.
Observe departmental safety standards and regulations.
Assign responsibility and delegate authority.
Carry on continuous evaluation of needs and services as concerns nursing service and resident care.
Assist in development of a nursing care plan for each resident and insure that his/her plan is reviewed and revised as necessary.
Participate in the selection of prospective residents in terms of the nursing service they need and the capability of the facility to supply the needed service.
Participate in the selection and recruitment of employees.
Fill out necessary reports for the admittance, transfer, or discharge of residents.
Participate in utilization review and other committees.
Work with consultants, dietary, pharmacist, etc., and as necessary or possible, implement changes.
Set standards for qualifications of personnel.
Arrange for and participate in in-service and orientation programs.
Assist charge nurses in carrying out their responsibilities.
Participate in policy planning for personnel and resident care.
May assist in preparing a nursing service budget.
Assist in interpreting the objectives, goals, and functions of the nursing department to other departments.
Assist in preparing performance evaluations on personnel.
Develop job descriptions for nursing service personnel.
Review complaints and grievances
Assist in implementing resident care policies.
Review nursing policies at least on an annual basis.
Represent nursing home and nursing service in professional and community activities.
Assist in preparing time schedules and daily assignments.
Promote effective working conditions and relationships with the administration, medical staff, other departments, volunteers and agencies affiliated with the nursing home.
Encourage and facilitate further study and experience-gaining activities for professional nurses.
Other duties as directed by the Administrator.
Must be a Registered Nurse in the State of Texas with a current license
One year of nursing experience in geriatrics preferred
Must possess leadership ability and the willingness to cooperate with other departments
Ability to organize, plan and direct nursing service.
Must handle emergencies, give emergency care and give emergency instructions.
Must read, write, understand and speak English
Possess proficient computer skills
Valid Driver’s License
