The Health Data Analyst coordinates NHA activities with health care patient data comprising the Nebraska Hospital Information System (NHIS) and Clinical Outcomes Measurement System (COMS). Directs the database software and/or software vendors for the NHA to provide meaningful health information. The Health Data Analyst also manages NHA contracted arrangements with health information enterprises that are extension of the NHIS.
Responsible for collecting, processing and analyzing Nebraska hospital claims data and other health information to measure hospital performance, financial, and clinical outcomes.
Make modifications to existing system to enhance data ingestion, analysis and reporting capabilities. Includes maintaining and troubleshoots existing programs.
Manages the NHA health information database system (NHIS) and system contractors.
Ensures that the NHA’s controls of hospital information are adequate to safeguard the NHA’s statutory and contractual obligations and that systems are in place and functioning which will generate accurate health care information reports.
Manages compilation of health data in preparation of health information reports.
Analyzes and interprets health information system reports.
Prepares accurate standard reports and special reports.
Designs input and output formats, queries and reports.
Works with the Vice President, Health Information to implement system fail-safe procedures in accordance with accepted database standards.
Works with the Vice President, Health Information to oversee and perform coding, testing and debugging of programs in the health information system.
Provides technical assistance to member hospitals as needed.
Provides analytical assistance to member hospitals as needed.
Consults with NHA staff and health information task forces to determine program specifications, designs parameters and desired capabilities of health information system computer database programs.
Develops and assists with formal presentations on health information.
Active membership with AAHAM (American Association of Healthcare Administrative Management)
Active membership with HFMA (Healthcare Finance Management Association
Acts in other capacities as directed.
Complies and adheres to all NHA policies and procedures.
SAS development with general knowledge of data analytics, research and problem-solving.
Knowledge of healthcare claims data elements.
Knowledge of health care Revenue Cycle information and issues with a high degree of hospital patient financial services and coding practices such as ICD-9, ICD-10 and CPT-4/HCPCS are preferred.
Knowledge of HIPAA (Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act).
Must have experience and competency with computers, spreadsheet applications, and database management. Demonstrate ability to communicate effectively verbally and in writing. Also demonstrates ability to problem solve.
Previous hospital Patient Financial Services and/or Revenue Cycle experience with clinical health care background and claims data analysis preferred.
Minimum 3 years-experience in SAS development.
