The National Association of County and City Health Officials (NACCHO), a national organization representing approximately 2,800 local health departments (LHDs) nationwide, has an immediate opening for a Web and New Media Specialist.
The Web and New Media Specialist contribute to the advancement of local public health practice by performing a range of responsibilities related to NACCHO’s Web site. General responsibilities include developing and maintaining specialized web site applications, maintaining and updating specific pages on the site, ensuring consistency in the format of site pages, producing reports related to site usage, providing technical support to staff on site revisions, and other duties as assigned.
This is a professional position requiring excellent analytical, interpersonal, and technical skills. The work involves partnerships with fellow staff and occasional collaboration with LPHAs. The work also requires the exercise of extensive discretion and independent judgment.
A Web and New Media Specialist is responsible for providing professional support for programs or internal functional activities and typically performs moderately difficult analysis, research, writing, and project coordination, usually under the direction of a Manager or Director. The Web and New Media Specialist understands policies, standards, and their application to their work. An advanced degree may be substituted for work experience on a case by case basis. The Web and New Media Specialist understands implications of internal and external policies that impact their position. He or she typically performs analysis, research, writing, or project management and can complete projects or components of large scale projects/programs with little supervision. A Web and New Media Specialist may also hold a very senior level administrative position requiring the ability to support and coordinate the office of a senior executive and communicate with internal and external stakeholders at a level commensurate with the position’s duties and expectations. Specialists may have frequent contact with outside organizations or internal customers that may involve project coordination, information sharing, or resolution of problems. They may be required to represent NACCHO at meetings.
POSITION SPECIFIC DUTIES
• Maintaining and updating areas on home page and all sections that cannot be edited using CommonSpot and SharePoint. • Maintaining and updating Publications & Tools, Careers, Conferences & Seminars, Press Room, and NACCHO administrative pages on the site. • Reviewing all program pages as a whole for formatting inconsistencies, and coordinating with staff to correct pages as needed. • Providing web statistical reports for all programs on a monthly basis to inform staff of number of visits to various portions of the site, and search terms used. • Uploading non-web pages to the server (e.g., PDF, Word, PPT, and MP3 attachments) and developing new web-based applications, as requested by staff. • Providing Web site-related technical support to staff, as needed Maintaining database-driven sites (e.g., model practices, demo sites, clearinghouses, distribution lists, E-newsletters, funding guide, etc.), as needed. • Making necessary changes to or customizing Website templates, as needed. • Consulting with the NACCHO Teams on web-related projects, programs, and promotion activities. • Developing written reports and/or presentations for staff about relevant Website policies, practices or issues, as needed. • Performing other duties as assigned.
• Bachelor's degree in relevant professional field with a minimum of 2-5 years of relevant experience and/or advanced technical training; or equivalent combination of education and experience, including a relevant certification. An advanced degree may be substituted for work experience. On occasion, extensive practical experience may be substituted for formal education, particularly if the technical specialty is unusually complex or when long experience has a greater value to the organization than conceptual understanding. Master’s degree in a relevant field preferred. • High level of proficiency with SharePoint and CommonSpot; • High level of proficiency in HTML; • High level of proficiency in Dreamweaver and Adobe Products; • Knowledge of Google Analytics and netFORUM; • Knowledge of web publishing and web development lifecycle process; • Knowledge of usability and web architecture standards; • Knowledge of IIS (Internet Information Servers); • Preferred proficiency in Cold Fusion and SQL; • Preferred experience working in an association environment; • Ability to manage sub-domains and file/directory structures and permissions; • Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals. Ability to write routine reports and correspondence. Ability to speak effectively before groups of customers or employees of the organization • Ability to calculate figures and amounts such as discounts, interest, commissions, proportion, percentages, area, circumference and volume. Ability to apply concepts of basic algebra and geometry. • Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out instructions furnished in written, oral or diagram form. Ability to deal with problems involving several concrete variables in standardized situations. • Spreadsheet and word processing software experience required.
JOB CLASSIFICATION • Full-time, Non-Exempt, TERM: This position is considered Fiscal Year term, however it is a mission critical role. NACCHO will continually strive to maintain funding for all positions.
• HIRING SALARY RANGE: $32.00-$35.00 hourly, commensurate with experience
