The Robley Rex VA Medical Center is seeking a Full-time physician to join our Hospice and Palliative Care Team. The physician will report to the ACOS Geriatrics, Extended Care and Rehabilitative Service. The incumbent is responsible for the overall medical care delivered by the Hospice and Palliative Care team.
Flexibility and a compassionate bedside manner are essential.
Candidate must be self-motivated, and willing to take the initiative to work collaboratively with an interdisciplinary team at the Medical Center. The successful incumbent will have a record of accomplishments clinically, academically and or administratively, and will join a growing department and practice in a stimulating and diverse atmosphere. Salary considers qualifications and levels of expertise.
Duties and responsibilities include, but are not limited to:
*Oversee daily operations, and provide clinical, programmatic and administrative leadership to the Hospice and Palliative Care service.
*Provide physician services, clinical input and oversight for all patient treatment plans consistent with hospice and palliative care philosophy.
*Provide inpatient and outpatient consultation services in hospice and palliative care. Be an active participant and facilitate clarification and the development of patient and family goals of care. Home visits will be made as indicated.
*Improve access to Hospice and Palliative care as experienced by patients, their families and providers. Amplify the awareness of the concepts, role and availability of Hospice and Palliative Care services among ambulatory, home-based, specialty and acute care clinicians. Facilitate access to appropriate supportive care services
*Consult with attending staff as requested so that symptom management for patients is effectively and expeditiously accomplished.
*Apprise the Hospice and Palliative Care team of medical care and practice standards
*Plan and direct educational experience for medical students, residents, and fellows assigned to Hospice and Palliative Care.
*Provide counsel to the GEC&R leadership team regarding process improvement, program development, and policy decisions related to Hospice and Palliative Care service.
*Train ambulatory, specialty and acute care clinicians to provide basic palliative care through improvements in service delivery policies, procedures and interfaces. Develop and provide education to medical center staff and coworkers.
*Full and appropriate documentation of patients care services to support professional billing for these services.
*Work closely with the HPC Program Manager
*Participation in on-call coverage for the Hospice & Palliative Care Service.
*Develop responsive and productive training partnership with the local academic affiliates (including enhancing Hospice and Palliative Care service partnership with the Hospice and Palliative Care fellowship training program at the University of Louisville Hospital).
*Pursue opportunities for partnering with other specialties, including Primary Care, Cardiology, Pulmonology, Surgery and Oncology within the facility.
*Other duties as assigned.
WORK SCHEDULE: Primarily clinical, Monday - Friday, 8:00 am - 4:30 pm. Some weekend coverage.
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:Light lifting (under 15 lbs.), light carrying (under 15 lbs.), use of fingers, walking 4-8 hours, standing 4-8 hours, near vision correctable at 13"to 16" to Jaeger 1 to 4, far vision correctable in one eye to 20/20 and 20/40 in the other, hearing (aid permitted), emotional stability, mental stability, working closely with others, working alone, and working with bio hazardous material.
Must be proficient in written AND spoken English.
U.S. Citizenship (Non-citizens may be appointed ONLY if it is not possible to recruit qualified citizens)
Degree of Doctor of Medicine or an equivalent degree resulting from a course of education in medicine or osteopathic medicine.
Current full and unrestricted license to practice medicine or surgery in a State; Territory, or Commonwealth of the United States, or in the District of Columbia.
Selective Service Registration is required for males born after 12/31/1959.
- Board certifiedin Hospice and Palliative Medicine
- Eligible for faculty appointment at the University of Louisville at the AssociateProfessor or Professor level.
- Successful completion of a Hospice and Palliative Medicine Fellowship
- Experience in teaching residents, fellows, medical students and inter-professional team members in the specialty of Hospice and Palliative Medicine
